Online Media soon to be recognised by Chandigarh Press Club- says the President
In this tech-savvy era when there is a notion that New Media is a threat to the Traditional Media and recognition is not easy to gather, there are people like Jaswant Singh Rana who do emphasize the New Media's upsurging role.

The President of Chandigarh Press Club who is appointed twice consequently has a refreshing view point towards Online Journalism, "New Media, according to me is the most convenient form in today's world. Every one has a mobile or a laptop through which they can access any kind of news at all times. Be it even airplanes! Newspapers with their limitations are nowadays not that easy to access but when the generation would get bored up with all the scrolling of mobile phones, they would at some point take the help of print media as well. But, no media is a threat to another." So does the Club has anything coming up for the New Media as many Online Journalists do feel left out from the Federation? To this Rana replies, "We have received applications from various kinds of online portals but it is difficult to differentiate that which ones are fake and which are not. But, we have set up a screening committee who would check these out and soon we would open up member registrations for the working journalists of Online Portals as well." How do we differentiate between the good and the bad? "The online portals which are up to date and showcase a regularity in their specific field of work would be chosen up. Of course, registered New Media would also be an option to consider for. Like, if I am preparing a page for Punjab related news, Punjabnews.com or Babushahi.com are the portals that I would go for. As they have got quite much reputation and people already know about them. Also, clicks on the website matter but nowadays, even those are bought up." Jaswant Singh Rana also spoke specifically on the misuse of the New Media that is happening up nowadays. "We can see that every one is opening a web portal and demanding a recognition as a media person or press. That should not be the case. Just look at me, till now I have not got PRESS written up on my car. So it should not be started up for a show off but for a noble journalistic cause."
