Many groups and troupes perform theatre, but the dedication and perseverance that Malkiat Singh has in him is what makes him stand out from the herd. Ahead of his self-written play, 'Malanga Time Pass' that was scheduled in Panjab Kala Bhawan, sector-16, Chandigarh, we had a candid Malkiat talk about corruption, his passion and theatre. "Theatre is not for earning money. If you want to earn, you have other sources too. It is to learn something new every day. It is a sea, where no matter how many drops you put, it would never be full. I still learn. From the youngsters and freshers who come to me to learn theatre." Further on he adds, "Theatre is quite different from cinema. It is a technique to learn how to poise, how to react, how to instil emotions and basically how to become a human. No you cannot suddenly and magically learn to act or to speak but you certainly can learn the body movements and how to live."

For more than two decades in this theatre line, Malkiat is also observant that what is going around the society and wants to showcase the ills through theatre. "There is a lot of corruption that is going on. Also, mostly politicians are involved in a lot of social evils that are highly prevalent. So, if I want to raise a voice against them, I go out and explore the social evils myself first handedly and then write a play or think about staging it. Also, if through my plays, like 'Malanga Time Pass' if out of 600 audiences, 100 people also take along the social message then my motive is complete." 'Malanga Time Pass' is a comedy satire play that is on a couple out of which the character of Malanga is played by Malkiat himself, along with 25 other stage artists as well. The story goes as such that every person, be it neighbour, politician or director comes to his place just for time pass. The play puts a light on various social issues through out and out comedy and satire that makes us think that are we really doing the good things in our lives or not?
