GST Rate List: What Gets Costlier and What is Cheaper

GST is one whole tax that takes into consideration all of the other taxes like VAT, service tax, entertainment tax, octroi and all the others while bringing in just one tax that is, GST. But, every time a budget session comes in or a tax is introduced, increased or decreased, all a common man with no tax knowledge wants to know that what all goods would be cheaper and what all would be costlier for them to buy on.

With all the talk around the India's biggest tax reform that is on effect from today itself, we have taken down a list that lets the common man know in short that what all are goods are going to be cheaper and what is going to burn a hole in their pocket (believe me, you would not be happy to know this one).

Dairy Products to be cheaper except one big exception, our favorite PANEER!

Well, well! Dairy products at large would be cheaper now as the economists quote. With the addition of milk powder, curd, butter milk and cheese. But, everyone's favorite paneer is excluded from the list and put in the goods that would get costlier. Really! Please Mister Modi, Paneer is already a luxury commodity for us, we do not want it to be ultra luxury commodity that cannot be bought at all in the near future :(

Eating Out at Restaurants would now be expensive but not so expensive!

It is being said that the services would be pricey, if the GST comes into effect. And these services include, Restaurants too! So, earlier, suppose, if you paid Rs. 1185 at a restaurant with 18.5% Service Tax and VAT, now you would be paying approximately Rs. 1200 for that same bill including GST! So, approximately Rs.15 hike is not that mindful but just for the info, it's in the expensive list.

Desktops, Laptops and Smartphones might cost a Bombshell!

Umm, not the one to point out a government with political issues but what's this thing with expensive laptops, desktops and smartphones? Weren't we going the Digital India way, PM Modi? What's the long-term benefit for the common man in this extortionation? So, please explain how increasing the prices of at least these major devices would land us in a better technological position?

Phone Bills to be costlier

Again, a question at the intentions of the Digital India initiative. Again we say, how come we be ahead in technology when the telecommunications be also charged with a higher fare? Internet packs and call rates would get higher with the incoming of GST, according to the Cellular Operators in India. *Facepalm*

LED's, Washing Machines and other electronic goods to be Pricey

Seems like every electronic good is going to be super-pricey after the introduction of GST. Washing Machines, Fridges, AC's (which you definitely need in this hot weather) and LED's would also become expensive and in future might reach out of the hands of the consumers.

Aerated Drinks, Chocolates, Ice Creams to be rich kid's choice!

No! Ice Creams and chocolates to have increased rates after the introduction of GST! Also, aerated drinks like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Mountain Dew and the likes would be high-priced and I'm screwed! Like, seriously why these? Coffee, Cornflakes, Chewing gum, Shampoos and Perfumes to also fall under the big-budget category. Please, don't heavily tax at least these commodities to make them ultimate luxuries of our lives!

So, lets all say this in unison to the government to hear our voice!

I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM, WE ALL SCREAM FOR ICE-CREAM!

Hotel Tariffs below Rs.7,500 to become more Cheaper

Planning a trip around India? Now, you can be sure of getting better hotel room deals that are cheaper as with the introduction of GST, the tariffs that are already below the segment of Rs.7,500, would turn more cheaper! Yippee! Some relaxation by this most expected tax! However, the room prices above Rs. 7,5000 would be costlier and that would affect 5-star hotel industry as well.

Ready-made Garments to be economical

Branded garments and apparels would now be low-priced with the upcoming of GST. So, now no wait for the Big Sales in the malls, we can go shopping any time with hopefully reasonable prices! *wink wink*

Tobacco and alcoholic products to hit the roof

With the upcoming of GST, cigarettes, tobacco and alcoholic drinks would be costlier. For the common man (who love booze and beer), this step after the Liquor Ban on Highways, would be a big blow. Making it clear, the Government is not at all in favor of the alcohol consumption at all. After Dry States, the next step might be Dry India, LOL!
