Master Bikram Thapa, Asia's only sixth degree black belt holder in Martial Arts is a self-effacing man but when you see him fight, he's like the Indian version of Bruce Lee. "I have grown up watching Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan movies, so yes it happened so that I wanted to pursue Martial Arts as my passion", Thapa reminisces at the memory during the Martial Arts (Choi Kwang Do) workshop running in Bal Bhawan, Sector-23, Chandigarh.

Bikram, who hails from West Bengal has learned the art from various grandmasters in Chandigarh with perseverance, "My parents wanted me to go into Army but I wanted to make my name in Martial Arts and they supported me."
Before Choi Kwang Do, a self-defense Martial Art, Bikram's journey had other Martial Arts categories in his learning process, "I learned Karate, Kick boxing, Taekwondo and Wushu before learning Choi Kwang Do. You might have heard about being a Black Belt. Fifth degree Black Belt holder is the one who becomes a master instructor and I am the Asia's only sixth degree Black Belt holder."
What is Choi Kwang Do? Master Bikram Thapa explains the art, "Martial Arts is anything that you do for your self-defense. Even if you throw a stone at someone, it is also a Martial Art. Other forms of Martial Arts like Karate require rigidity and muscle stretches which does not allow every one to learn and use it. Choi Kwang Do is the Art where there are no jerky movements or muscles being stretched, only you got to have the flexibility and fluidity in your movements. This is a Martial Art fit for all."
Currently, Choi Kwang Do Association under the guidance of Master Bikram is running a free camp till 8th of July in Bal Bhawan- 23 and after that they would teach the Art to the aspirants. This 44 year well-maintained man is married and has a daughter who too is a Black Belt in Martial Arts itself. Looks like, it is in the genes!
