FINALLY, A CHANGE!

Transgenders to get an option to prefix Mx before their names in a big move by Chandigarh Administration

India is one of the country that is extremely homophobic and has a societal rift amongst the 'Third Gender' and the judiciary. But, in a recent move by Chandigarh administration has given a hope to the transgenders all around the country to fight for equality.

The administration has decided to provide transgenders with an option to prefix Mx with their names while filling application/admission forms. Which means that applications/admission forms besides Mr, Ms and Mrs will now also have an option for the third gender- Mx.

The elated transgenders are considering this as yet another win in return of their efforts put in for an equal identity. This would also help them find new open doors to education and employment. After Panjab University's bold steps, this is certainly a pathbreaker.

Dhananjay Mangalmukhi, a transgender activist from the city says, "We are happy that the Chandigarh administration has accepted our demand to allow us a prefix Mx in various application and admission forms but the biggest problems being faced by the transgender community is illiteracy..."
