The Tale of being turned into an UNSAFE CITY
According to the National Crime Report Bureau (NCRB), Chandigarh has been reported as an unsafe Territory in India. The annual data of NCRB (National crime records bureau) for 2016 has ranked City Beautiful – Chandigarh second among the seven UTs in the country in crime rate. Chandigarh ranked 20th in India, in crime rate and the national capital – Delhi took the top slot in the annual data of NCRB.
Chandigarh, that was earlier termed as one of the safest cities in India recorded a 26.7 percent violent crimes. This records for the second highest crime rate in India after Delhi that records for 77.5 per cent crime rate. Violent crimes include culpable homicide not amounting to rape, murder, kidnapping, dacoity, robbery and arson.
The UT, sadly putting up also topped in the list of culpable homicides with 54 incidents. Along with it, four cases related to dowry were also reported that puts up Chandigarh omn the second highest list amongst UT's. While with just one female feoticide case being reported, it stood second after Delhi with eight registered cases. Surprisingly, no other UT had any feoticide case being registered.
But, there's one good news in this series of revelations. Crimes against women have been reduced in The City Beautiful. In Crime against woman, Chandigarh stands 11th among all states and UTs.
