"History doesn't tell much about Netaji's INA, but our film would"- Kunal Kapoor

Rajya Sabha TV is bringing forward 'Raag Desh' directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia. The movie has actors Kunal Kapoor, Mohit Marwaha and Amit Sadh and is based on a true story on the trials of INA created by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and particularly of three cadets. On Tuesday, the cast and crew of the film were in Panjab University, Chandigarh for the promotions.

Dhulia and team had worked for more than two years on the subject, collecting valid documents and information regarding the trials that shook the country during that time. Kunal spoke, "Before working on the movie, I myself did not know so much about Indian National Army that the film enlightened. Our history and history books do not present with much mention about the Azad Hind Fauj. Our characters are Punjabi. Playing Shah Nawaz Khan, Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon and Prem Sehgal was a responsibility that was put on our heads by Tigmanshu. Playing the real life story rather than a fictional character is quite difficult." To this Mohit added, "But me and Kunal are themselves Punjabi so the language wasn't a problem to us."

What does the film's title mean? Mohit explained, "Raag Desh means the song of the country. So, the title seems to be apt for such a film."

Pakistan and India relations in the industry seems to be highlighted every now and then. Kunal bluntly speaks, "I think if the laws are made they should be equal for every one. When Karan Johar made a movie and casted Fawad Khan, then there was a much high level retaliation but when Mom had two Pakistani actors working in it, I did not hear a word against it. So, there should be equality."

Releasing on 28th July, Raag Desh promises to display a different side of British imperialism and INA whereas produced by Rajya Sabha TV, it promises no interference of government in the making.
